From 1892 to 1931, John Philip Sousa toured with his band. He hired the finest musicians in the world and visited cities all over the United States and Europe playing the music of the time. His band introduced many people to the latest and greatest classical and popular music.
The 85 member, Greater Miami Symphonic Band, will recreate the type of concert that the Sousa Band performed over 100 years ago. Music that energizes the audience, with overtures, novelty pieces and certainly marches, marches such as the United States Official March, “Stars and Stripes Forever”.
Associate Conductor, Thomas Keck, will lead the Greater Miami Symphonic Band at the fabulous Banyan Bowl, located at Pinecrest Gardens. This beautiful, outdoor venue is a site that has excellent acoustics and provides the concert attendee an intimate relationship with the GMSB.
Selections chosen for this concert include, “Festival Overture on the American National Air” by Buck, “Symphony on Themes of John Philip Sousa” by Hearshen, Finale from “New World Symphony” by Dvorak, “Glory of the Yankee Navy March”, “Fairest of the Fair March”, “Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company March” and “Stars and Stripes Forever March” by John Philip Sousa.
